Meet Our Moms: Lachana - Mama of 2

Sometimes - you do everything right:

  • You get yourself a good job

  • You move your family to a safer neighborhood

  • You wake up every morning trying to provide the best life for your children

Lachana moved her family to Georgia eight years ago looking to give her family the world.

A single mama, she was proud that she’d been able to pay the bills and get her kids to school on time despite having to work one, sometimes two jobs to make ends meet.

She’s a natural care-taker. In addition to her kids, she spends her days taking care of other children who have mental or physical disabilities. The days can feel long and the work hard, but at the end of it - she gets to come home to her two boys whom she’s proud to say, “...are both on the Honor roll and very respectful.”

Leading up to the recent pandemic, Lachana became sick - making going to work impossible. With everything COVID-19 related - Lachana’s hours were cut unexpectedly and she fell behind on rent and other bills.

After 14 years as a healthcare professional and being able to provide for her family - Lachana was lost and depressed.

She tried reaching out, but not many people responded.

THAT’S WHEN LACHANA FOUND THE TENDER FOUNDATION.

Quickly, Tender was able to give Lachana and her boys groceries. “In addition to the food, you all continued to follow up with resources available for us. I am so humble and grateful for you because I didn’t know what to do.”

As a single mama who’s always taken care of everything on her own and with no family nearby, Lachana found a family in Tender.

Ten percent of all requests received by Tender are for grocery assistance. As Jaycina, our founder, says, “I can’t imagine trying to be a mother from a place of survival.”

It takes a village to raise a family - we are so lucky that we can be apart of that village for Lachana and all of our Tender mamas.
