Diaper Need In Georgia

What happens when babies don’t have an adequate supply of diapers?

“Diaper need” is defined as the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep an infant or child clean, dry, and healthy.

1 in 3 families in our community are faced with that dilemma on a daily basis. Families are often forced to stretch their supply - meaning they prolong diaper changes or even reuse soiled diapers. Parents can also lose their jobs or miss out on income since at most daycares you aren’t able to drop your baby off without a sufficient amount of diapers. Of course, no daycare means no work.

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, the average cost of annual infant care in single parent households in Georgia is a whopping 36%. That means for a mama working full-time in GA making $7.25 an hour, she has about $742.40 left for everything else after paying for her child(ren)’s daycare, diapers, wipes, formula, etc. That’s a little under $750 to cover her family’s housing, utilities, transportation, groceries and fun spending.

At Tender we are committed to bridging the financial gap for mothers in Atlanta so that they can focus on what is most important: their children.

In a gut wrenching moment, one mama wrote to us saying, “Being a mother means going without to make sure your child is well taken care of.” At Tender, our mission is to make sure nobody has to go without.

Thanks to our generous donors in the community as well as our corporate partners like Coterie - we’ve been able to fulfill 100% of all diaper and wipe requests that we receive.

In 2020, Tender provided over 183 families with diapers and wipes. So far in 2021, we are well on our way to exceeding that number.
